The best results from strength training for midlife women come from a week that combines three pieces: lifting that progresses toward heavier loads, short and hard intervals, and dedicated recovery. That combination is the backbone of the Power Happens collection, and it's a big part of why women see such strong results with it.

The Power Happens plans sit outside the Membership, but the structure behind them doesn't. The training system inside the Membership works like a set of building blocks, so you can assemble the same kind of week yourself, shaped around your goals and the equipment you have.

Why the Power Happens structure works

Power Happens is built on Dr. Stacy Sims’ research on strength training for midlife women and how their bodies respond to it. Each week combines three kinds of work. Strength training, progressing toward heavier loads over time, sends the signal your muscles and bones need as estrogen declines through perimenopause and menopause. Short, hard intervals train the fast-twitch fibers women lose fastest with age and produce lactate, a fuel your brain and heart use well. Recovery work ties it together, so your body adapts to the training instead of just absorbing the stress of it.

The good news is that the Membership has a plan for each of those pieces. You just put them together yourself.

Step 1: Start with a strength plan as your base

Every strength plan in the Membership can serve as your main training schedule. Choose the one that fits your goals, your experience level and your equipment, and let it set the rhythm of your week. Your strength days are the anchor, and everything else gets layered around them.

Step 2: Add your cardio

Power Happens places cardio alongside strength training. Inside the Membership, you have two ways to do the same.

Option 1: HIIT/SIT intervals (no special equipment)

This option is the closest match to what you're used to in Power Happens. The HIIT/SIT Flex Plan holds 16 interval sessions, so you can mix up your cardio from week to week or repeat the same sessions across each training block.

These sessions sit outside most strength plans on purpose. Many Members already have their own cardio, whether that's a run club, a spin class or tennis, and don't want to delete cardio days in the app week after week. Adding intervals yourself keeps you in control of both your training and your app experience.

Option 2: Cardio Happens (for Watts-equipped machines)

If you have access to cardio machines that measure Watts and you don't mind a little math, Cardio Happens is one of the most effective options available. You start with a max power test, and every session is then prescribed from your own numbers. Instead of guessing at "go hard" or "go easy," you know exactly how hard to work, and that precision is what makes it so effective for building fitness.

To use it, run Cardio Happens alongside your main strength plan in the app.

Step 3: Round it out with recovery

Recovery is where your body adapts to the work you've done. Add Mobility Happens with Rosie or Yoga Happens with Allie to your week for foam rolling, mobility and recovery work. Both pair easily with any strength plan, and they mirror the optional core and mobility sessions in Power Happens.

Put it together based on your equipment:

  • No special equipment: your strength plan + HIIT/SIT intervals + Mobility Happens or Yoga Happens.

  • Watts-equipped cardio machines: your strength plan + Cardio Happens + Mobility Happens or Yoga Happens.

  • Want variety: alternate HIIT/SIT intervals and Cardio Happens across different training blocks.

For a sense of how the week fits together, the Beginner and Intermediate Power Happens plans pair three strength days with two cardio days and an optional core and mobility session. A Membership week built the same way could look like this:

Day

Session

Monday

Strength

Tuesday

HIIT/SIT or Cardio Happens

Wednesday

Strength

Thursday

Mobility Happens or Yoga Happens

Friday

Strength

Saturday

HIIT/SIT or Cardio Happens

Sunday

Rest

If your strength plan uses a different number of days, keep the same idea: strength as the anchor, two interval sessions placed between strength days, and recovery wherever your week needs it most.

Your program, your way

With a strength plan as your base, intervals layered in and recovery to round out the week, you have a fully customized program with the same structure as Power Happens.

Whether you’re new to lifting in midlife, coming back after a break or chasing a more advanced goal, the Membership gives you the building blocks to train the way your body needs at every stage, and the flexibility to adjust as your goals change.
